Apple is serious about assembling iPhones in India: Report

It seems like Apple is serious about a made in India iPhone and is reportedly in talks with government officials to set this up
.
A report on The Wall Street Journal states that Apple is currently in discussions with the government on the possibility of manufacturing in India. While the products may not actually be manufactured as such, they are likely to be assembled here. The company is reportedly seeking financial incentives for the same.
Apple iPhone prices in India are ludicrous and possibly the highest in the world. Currently, most models sell for anywhere between 20 and 40 percent more than US prices.
Apple’s iPhone sales have stagnated globally and the company sees great potential for growth in the relatively untapped markets of China and India. The Chinese market hasn’t paid off as well as Apple hoped, and costs are too high in the Indian market.
The company did seek permission for selling refurbished iPhones in the Indian market, but the Indian government did not grant that permission.
It’s not known whether this make/assembled in India initiative will extend to Apple’s other products, including the iMac and the MacBook lineup.
