The latest version of WhatsApp finally brings full support for Android 7.0’s notification system.
Android 7.0 Nougat brought with it the ability to show notifications that are grouped by
conversation, rather than just the app. It also brought improvements to the way you use quick reply to notifications, Android Wear support and more.
WhatsApp hadn’t yet embraced these features and still stuck to the traditional notification style. Android Police reports that as of WhatsApp version 2.17.13 beta, the app now supports Nougat’s notification in full.
With the new update, you’ll now be able to reply to individual conversations from within the notification menu as well.
As you can tell from the name, the feature is still in beta and isn’t yet available to everyone. However, if you want to try out the new notification features for yourself, you can join up as a WhatsApp beta tester on the Play Store.
If you don’t want to do that, you can download the WhatsApp 2.17.13 Beta APK from APKMirror.
Version 2.17.14 of the WhatsApp beta is also available at APKMirror, and it introduces video streaming (videos will start playing as they’re being downloaded) and improves WhatsApp’s video calling support (limited to beta users).
