While the Samsung Galaxy S8 has yet to go on sale globally, the smartphone giant is already facing a few problems, issues that have been reported by its first owners in Korea. Samsung has reportedly received several complaints regarding the flagship smartphone’s Infinity display. The display according customers who have received their handsets are showcasing a strong reddish tint.
According to a report from the Korean Herald, customers who preordered the Galaxy S8 wrote on online communities stating that their new phones have a reddish screen. The same customers also clarified that the red tint does not disappear even upon correcting the smartphone’s color display settings.
Samsung in a statement responded saying, “It is not a quality problem and it can be adjusted with the phone itself. If the color still appears to be reddish, customers can change it at the service center.”
Despite attempts to tweak the display, users saw no success and according to an industry watcher, there are reasons for this.
Samsung’s OLED displays use two subpixels instead of three that are used on conventional LCD units. To counter the abundance of green, in the red-green and blue-green setup, Samsung this year decided to develop deep red OLEDs to add brighter reds to combat the two greens. This however, may have backfired on some units leading to incorrect colour balance.
