T-Pain is excited to be a GPS Navigation Voice

Musician T-Pain is known for many things (auto-tune, impressive a cappella NPR concerts, being on a boat) — but now he's about to take the world of in-car navigation to a whole new level.

As of May 4, people who use the popular navigation app Waze can select T-Pain's voice as a soothing auto-tuned guide for all their travel needs.
When Tech Insider spoke to T-Pain about "Game of Thrones," selfie culture, and his upcoming music, he told us all about the partnership with the app.
"I’m more excited than anybody!" T-Pain exclaimed. "I’ve always wanted to do GPS, ever since Garmin got famous."
T-Pain describes the process of pairing up with Waze as "easy peezy, lemon squeezey." He had been on their radar of potential celebrities to tap, so it was a match made in auto-tune heaven. Previous guest voices include Morgan Freeman and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"It’s been a long dream for me," T-Pain said. "When this opportunity came up with Waze, and I saw like Morgan Freeman and Shaq and Arnold, I thought 'Well OBVIOUSLY I have to f---ing do this.'"
Recording the word blurbs was no easy task, however. "It was a very long day," he said. "The first day was just doing all the mandatory 'left,' 'right,' 'U-turn,' you know all the stuff that’s going to be in your normal GPS. Then there was a whole day of 'police reported,' 'accident reported,' 'hazard reported,' 'roundabout,' stuff like that."
But the tedium of repeating navigational phrases was worth it.
"It was a big, difficult, four day process, but I wanted it so bad," T-Pain said through laughter. "I got through it, and I made it work. If Morgan Freeman can sit there and do it, absolutely I can do it."
And the process isn't over. When we asked T-Pain if there were any Easter eggs to be found in the app, he said there could be some in the future. "There might be more things because I’m literally still recording," he said. "When I get back home I’m gonna record more. There’s some more customizable things, like I’m re-doing some of my songs into directions and stuff like that."
