At the Apple event later today, the company is expected to launch next iteration of the Apple Watch along with the iPhone 7. There have been a consistent flow of leaks and rumours
around the upcoming Watch too.
A new video has emerged from British repair shop Byte (via Macrumours) that gives sneak peek into the design and compares the display of the alleged Watch 2 with the first iteration.
According to Byte, the display is ‘most advanced of its kind’. The report also hints at an ‘incredibly thin’ display and ‘incorporates cutting edge technology’. The video also shows NXP NFC chip built into the display, which was a separate component in the earlier variant. A touchscreen controller has been shown embedded between NFC and capacitors. The Macrumours suggests that the reason for relocating the NFC could be to some internal space.
Another leaked video by Byte claims that the Watch 2 will come with a display that measures 2.86mm at its thickest and 2.12 at its thinnest. It should be noted that the original watch was 3.57mm at its thickest and 2.99 at thinnest. Similarly, the video shows the measurements for the height and width of the display and also the measurements of the battery. The battery measures 5.11 mm thick, 27.50 mm long, and 18.71 mm wide, suggesting that the new Watch will come with a larger battery.
A previous report had said that Apple tried to incorporate cellular connectivity, but failed to do so as it faced battery issues. The feature reportedly caused quick drain.
Meanwhile, KGI analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, who predicts that the Apple Watch 2 will not look any different from the current model. The company is expected launch two models. The first version would be a tiny upgrade with better processor and waterproofing while the new Watch 2 should pack in GPS, a barometer and a higher capacity battery.
Apple is all set to launch the all-new iPhone 7 in a few hours.
