Apple’s new Touch Bar in the MacBook Pro was a feature that excited some, while others simply thought of it as a gimmick. And in a way things seem to be that way when you consider the new MacBook Pro’s high asking price which offers so little in
terms of ports and hardware. More importantly, Tim Cook did reiterate that the new MacBook Pro base model (without the Touch Bar) priced at Rs 1,29,990 is supposed to be the replacement for the Rs 87,000 MacBook Air (huh?).

With so much negativity in the air about the use cases for the new Touch Bar innovation, Apple’s Phil Schiller was reportedly more than happy to shed some light on why Apple did what it did with the new MacBook Pro. In an interview with The Independent Schiller answered one too many questions and even answered why Apple did not go in for a touchscreen with the MacBook as well.
One of the answers given by the SVP of worldwide marketing at Apple Inc did confirm the obvious fact that Apple would be working on an even slimmer MacBook in the years to come. Trying to justify that the Touch Bar was the highlight is where Schiller spoke about how Apple tried to work with a touchscreen-based MacBook, but concluded that “it’s a bad experience”.
“If you made the Mac a touchscreen you’d have to figure out how to make it a good experience with your finger on a touchscreen,” said Phil Schiller. “It’s not as good or as intuitive as with a mouse and trackpad,” hinting at Microsoft’s Surface and the Windows 10 experience that today works with touchscreens. He said that the Touch Bar exists because it is coplanar with the keyboard and the trackpad, meaning that you do not need to lift your hand from the keyboard all the way to the screen breaking the typing or user experience.
Coming to the “all important” SD card reader that went missing, the SVP said that one should just go wireless with camera transfers. The team apparently had to make a choice between the different types of SD card slots, which is why they simply skipped on the idea concluding that a customer could simply use an external reader which are pretty fast as well.
Lastly, Phil Schiller also gave the publication about the way things are headed in terms of sales of its controversial MacBook Pro. “That so far our online store has had more orders for the new MacBook Pro than any other pro notebook before. So there certainly are a lot of people as excited as we are about it,” he said confirming that the new MacBook Pro as of now is a hit and that Apple’s ideas about what its consumers wanted were crystal clear.
