Used to be, Tesla buyers could get a $2,000 bonus to go with their new car. Now, it'll cost them that much more just to enter the race. Tesla has confirmed that the base price of the cheapest Model S
will jump up by $2,000 starting November 22. So, if a new Model S 60 has been something you've been eyeing, it's time to make a decision, as the $66,000 price tag is not long for this world.
The Model S 60 has a range of 218 miles and can zip from zero to 60 miles per hour in 5.5 seconds. Those numbers aren't nothing, but they're certainly not as impressive as the next-cheapest trim line, the $74,500 Model S 75.
Price hikes are nothing new for Tesla. The automaker has repeatedly eliminated the cheapest vehicles in its lineup or made them more expensive, and also raised the cost of some features, and will end the "free, forever" Supercharging plan for new Model X and S buyers in the new year.
It's no secret that Tesla has been trying to increase sales, and it did have a good third quarter this year.
