Swedish automaker Volvo has announced that it will be working closely with its Chinese owners to sell luxury cars around the world. While announcing its new strategy, the
company also showcased the new S90 Excellence, a luxury product which will be completely manufactured China and will be exported to North America and Europe.
With this move, Volvo has proved that it is quite confident with its Chinese production base.
The new luxurious S90 Excellence misses the front passenger seat to make space for a touchscreen console as well as space to store shoes underneath, which clearly means it will be chauffeur driven car. It also comes with a panoramic sunroof and handmade Swedish crystal glasses. According to Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson, the new S90 Excellence will be one of the most luxurious cars ever produced in China when Volvo’s two-year-old plant in Daqing, Heilongjiang province starts making the S90 range in the coming months.
Volvo and its parent company Geely also spoke about their plans to set up a factory that will make compact cars based on a new shared platform, including vehicles for Geely’s newly launched Lynk & Co. The factory is currently under construction in Luqiao which is 350 kilometres south of Shanghai and will be operated by Volvo.The new plant will produce Volvo’s new 40 series based on its Compact Modular Architecture platform, which will also be used for Lynk & Co vehicles.

This is a clear indication that Volvo wants to compete with other luxury car brands both globally as well as in China after it was bought by Zhejiang Geely Holdings in 2010.
“We have a strong manufacturing structure in China and we are geared up for further growth on this key market,” said Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson.
