Apple WWDC 2017: Apple iPad Pro 10.5-inch announced with A10X Fusion chipset and ProMotion display

Apple announced an addition to its iPad Pro line in the form of the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, along with an updated 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Both the iPads will come with the Apple A10X Fusion chipset. The 10.5-inch iPad Pro comes with extremely thin bezels, reducing the borders by
up to 40 percent while weighing in at under 500 grams. It means that the 10.5-inch iPad Pro fits in the form factor of yesteryear’s 9.7-inch iPad Pro.
The 10.5-inch iPad Pro will be available in the Silver, Space Gray, Gold and Rose Gold colours. The prices start from $649 for the 64GB Wi-Fi model and $779 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model and goes up to $949 for the 512GB Wi-Fi model and $1079 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model.
The 12.9-inch iPad Pro refresh will be available in Silver, Space Gray and Gold colours. The prices for the same start from $799 for the 64GB Wi-Fi model and $929 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model.
While the 12.9-inch iPad Pro refresh will start selling from next week, the new 10.5-inch iPad Pro is expectd to hit the markets later this month. The Indian prices for the new iPad Pros are not yet known. Both the iPad Pros will release with the iOS 10, and will be upgraded to iOS 11 eventually in fall.
The two tablets will include the all-new Files app, customisable Dock, improved multitasking and deeper integration of Apple Pencil.
The new iPad Pro will also come with ProMotion retina displays. The ProMotion display technology will ensure that refresh rates are 120Hz to give a fluid scrolling experience, improved responsiveness and smooth animations. Apple Pencil is also expected to be more responsive with a 20-millisecond latency for more natural drawing.
Both the iPad Pros also come with the Apple A10X Fusion chipset, featuring 64-bit architecture, a 6-core CPU and a 12-core GPU. Apple claims that this brings in around 30 percent faster CPU performance and a 40 percent faster GPU performance while ensuring a one-day battery life.
Some of the new features that iOS 11 operating system will bring to the iPad Pro include: a new customisable Dock that provides quick access to frequently used apps and documents from any screen; improved multi-tasking; new Files app that keeps everything in one place, whether files are stored locally, in iCloud Drive or across other providers like Box, Dropbox and more; Multi-touch drag and drop feature and much more.
On the camera front, you get a 12 MP rear camera supporting optical image stabilisation and a 7 MP front-facing FaceTime HD camera. It also supports a four-speaker audio system. An embedded Apple SIM2 and support for 802.11ac Wi-Fi and LTE Advanced3 make it easier to stay connected when traveling in more than 180 countries and regions.
According to Greg Joswiak, Apple’s VP of product marketing, “These are by far the most powerful iPads we’ve ever created with the world’s most advanced displays featuring ProMotion, the powerful new A10X Fusion chip and the advanced camera system of iPhone 7. Together with iOS 11 these new iPad Pro models will radically change what users can do with iPad.”
The new iPad Pro models are available to order beginning today from Apple.com and will start delivering to customers next week. Both models will also be available next week in Apple Stores, through select carriers and Apple Authorised Resellers in 37 countries including India.
